Vintage Jewelry For Me!

I treated myself to some fabulous jewelry pieces last week on Etsy and they have arrived. Vintage Fabulous is one of my favorite vintage jewelry stores online and after admiring many great items and watching them get away, I finally snagged some for myself! I love the 1960's prong set rhinestone necklace, it's perfect with a t-shirt and jeans or for a dressed up affair. The earrings are so unique, 1950's plastic feather with rhinestone insets. These clip ons cover the ear so wearing them can be tricky, especially since I have black hair. With a coiffed updo they will be stunning! Thank you Vintage Fabulous. What a treat!

My Projects: Crochet Lace Gloves

Being a beginner at knitting and crochet I am still learning a lot about different yarn weights. The process can be very trial and error. I found a great pattern for crochet lace fingerless gloves and stitched them up in a leftover bulky yarn. As you can see from the pics above it came out looking like a funky cast! I recently purchased some new lighter weight crochet yarns and am really excited to see how they stitch up. I'll keep you posted.

Mid-Week Inspiration: Crystal Encrusted Stockings

I absolutely loved the Doo.Ri Fall 2009 Collection shown last week at New York's Fashion Week. What especially stood out were the crystal encrusted lace stockings. In continuing with my apparent stocking themed week I am inspired to bedazzle some of my own lacey tights with sequins and paillettes!

Vintage Finds of the Week: Stockings

I love vintage stockings, the boxes, the seams, etc. As you know I am selling my collection as I have sadly realized that I am too tall for many vintage styles. While I have to rely on repro stockings to wear, I can't help but search every now and then for the real deal. Oh how I wish they'd fit! Here are my finds for the week.

Vintage Shop of the Day

Check out the new blog Vintage Shop of the Day, where a different vintage online store is highligted 7 days a week! Lucky me, my shop Femme Fatale Vintage is featured today!

Oscar Faves

Marisa Tomei in the most stunning Versace gown.

Penelope Cruz in vintage Balmain.

Evan Rachel Wood in Elie Saab.
These three dresses were my favorites from last night's Oscars. These dresses represent the true Classic Hollywood glamour I love so much and they are exquisitely designed with gorgeous draping and pleating. Well done!

More Inspiration: PHI Fall 2009

With so many images from the NY Fashion Week to pour over, I simply can't wait until next Wednesday to post another Mid-Week Inspiration. I am having 50 heart attacks over the PHI Fall 2009 Collection as I was over their Fall 2008 Collection. But this time they have taken it to a whole other level. There were too many pics I had chosen as my favorites to post, so please check out the complete collection. I seriously need all of these items shown here. I especially love the short sleeve jackets and sweaters worn with long opera length leather gloves. I am completely inspired to rock that look this fall with my vintage gloves. I will have to search for more. In the meantime, I will be saving up for those hot lace up velvet leggings, the silver sequin bomber jacket mini skirt, and that black sequin dress.

Newly Listed: Femme Fatale Vintage

As I promised, I am selling my vintage fishnet collection. Here are 4 pairs (2 ivory, 2 black) that are unworn as I realized I am just too tall for vintage hosiery. My vintage loss is your gain! This collection has been listed in my eBay store, auction style starting at $.99! This auction lasts one week and will end next Wednesday night! Don't delay.

Mid-Week Inspiration: Erin Fetherston Fall 2009

Erin Fetherston's shows are always very whimsical and fun. Her Fall 2009 Ready to Wear collection is no exception and many are heralding it as her best show yet. Inspired by toys that come to life, the collection is a sort of Alice in Wonderland meets the Nutcracker. Being a sucker for point d'esprit and stripes I especially loved the pouffy cocktail dress pictured above with matching tights and the red satin mini with striped hose and buckled Mary Janes.

Vintage Finds of the Week: Kitchen Canisters

I really love vintage details in my kitchen and have been finding myself looking for canisters lately. They are a great way to store your flour, sugar, etc or anything else that needs storage. They also look great as decoration. In my search this week, I have found a few very diferent styles to accentuate your kitchen. I simply can't decide for myself!

Mid-Week Inspiration: Bogart and Bacall

In keeping with my Valentine mood, this week's Mid-Week Inspiration is my favorite film noir couple, Bogart and Bacall. Humphrey Bogart met Lauren Bacall while filming To Have and Have Not in 1944 . Bogart was 45 and married but instantly attracted to the very young 19 year old Bacall. He mentored her as this was her first film and a relationship was born. After divorcing his wife he married Bacall in 1945 and they remained married until his death in 1957. They had two children, a boy, Stephen, named after Bogart's character in To Have and Have Not and a girl, Leslie, named after Bogart's actor friend Leslie Howard who was killed in WWII.
The couple filmed four movies together. Their chemistry is fun to watch and the films themselves are film noir masterpieces.

To Have and Have Not (1944). Bacall's screen debut and a great one. Her zingers and one liners are a treat. You'd never know she's 19. I also love Bogart's high waisted jeans.

The Big Sleep (1946). Bogart as Phillip Marlowe, I swoon! Good suspense and intrigue.

Dark Passage (1947). On my Netflix queue.

Key Largo (1948). Most likely the most popular one, but my least favorite. Still worth watching.

On My Wishlist: Retro Red Shoes

I love red shoes year round but with Valentine's Day fast approaching they seem very appropriate. I was delighted when I discovered Trashy Diva and their amazing retro shoe collection with a ton of shoes from Re-Mix Vintage as well as other makers. Here are 3 of my favorite red shoes from Trashy Diva that would be added to my Wists at the bottom of this page but there is some kind of blocker on that site not allowing my add button to work. Anyway, if anyone wants to send me a R.A.O.K, I'm a size 10!

From top to bottom:
Re-Mix 'Coco' Single Eyelet High Heel Oxford. Very 1920's! My sister and I call this style "Nun Shoes". I don't know why. I guess they remind us of the shoes the sister's wore when we'd visit our Great Aunt at the Convent in Quebec. I've had several versions of these shoes in my time, these have great vintage details.
Re-mix "Vera Cruz" Tooled Leather Ankle Strap Platform. I've never been a big fan of tooled leather (except when I was a child in the 70's and I coveted my much older sister's brown tooled leather purse) but in red these platforms are smokin'!
Nana 50's Style Satin Heels. These are so Marilyn and so perfect for Valentine's Day. Pair these with your favorite wiggle dress and go! Wallet friendly too.

Mid-Week Inspiration: Chanel Couture Spring '09

I thought Karl Lagerfeld's Couture Chanel collection shown last week was gorgeous. Done completely in black and white the clothing was beautifully restrained but still so Chanel. The white lace dresses were my favorite like the one pictured above. What really amazed me, however, were the stunning floral and feather headdresses made of paper from the Japanese hairdresser, Kamo. Most couture collections can be over the top which is exciting, but I'm gathering my inspiration from the quiet, yet complicated craft shown here. Simply pretty.

Back From Vacation, Back To Work

I'm back from a restful vacation. I spent 5 days in New Hampshire visiting my sister and her family. It was very cold and there was so much snow! Here I am in front of a giant snow bank from my sister's single car driveway...not a parking lot. I'm wearing my vintage chenille winter coat that I actually bought in New Hampshire at a great vintage boutique not too far from this snowbank, in 1995 for $18! Unfortunately the shop no longer exists but the coat does, and it is my warmest! The handbag is my Alexander McQueen bag I bought last year in Miami for a lot more than $18. Save on the coat...splurge on the bag! Ok, back to work.
