Are You a Follower of Fashion?

Edited by: Ann of Holier than Now

Last week marked the end of New York Fashion Week. Post-show, the editors, buyers and bloggers went to work to define and list the trends, hoping we'll follow along. But for many of us, the sheer shirts of Spring '11 were are about as realistic for our wardrobes as a meat dress. Instead, we looked outside of Lincoln Center at the street style of individuals, hoping to find the inspiration to zig when everyone else is zagging. This week's post celebrates the path less ... followed, with counterpoints on everything from current trends to blogger compensation and competition.

My Projects: Perky Snood

I've started crocheting this "Perky Snood" from 1942! It seems simple enough but I've already had to restart it. I'm using white acrylic which I hope will look good against my black hair. I will post pics soon when it gets more interesting. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, should you want to make one too here is the free pattern!

Mid-Week Inspiration: Marchesa Spring 2011

Marchesa's collections are always jaw dropping and inspiring. The recent showing of their Spring 2011 collection did not disappoint. Here are four of my favorites.

Amazing!

On My Wishlist: Grey Hair Streak

My grey hair is starting to show sporadically and I can never seem to cover them up fast enough. If only they were forming a single streak, then I could leave them be. Chanel (shown above and below) showed gorgeous grey streaks on the runway in their Spring 2010 Couture collection. I loved it!

Ann Sothern is another very fine inspiration!

And of course the lovely Mrs. Frankenstein!

Retro Looks In The Modern World: Sweet and Lowdown

As much as the modern fashion world looks forward it also continually looks back in time. Here we explore Retro Looks in the Modern World.
I love the Indian Summer feel of this editorial for TEST magazine. A lonely beach, low sunlight, all with an early 20th century seaside resort look.

Working the new season with fabulous new discoveries.

Influences, Impressions, and Interpretations of Fashion and what it all means

Edited by: Marie Denee of The Curvy Fashionista

It is without a doubt that fashion makes the world go round. Just last week, Fashion's Night Out helped revive the economy, fashion week's across the world bring together old friends, new friends, and those in between. Technology fused with fashion now offers inside perspectives- once only exclusively shared. Adding to this breath of fashion are those who blog.

This week's roundup offers a retrospect of fashion as New York Fashion Week comes to a close, designers have teased us with what's to come, and the world comes back to life- the fashion blogger's mind only now begins to race with influences, impressions, and interpretations of Fall Fashion and what it all means...

On My Wishlist: Silver Screen Chairs

Oh you all probably know I would love to have platinum blonde hair and the grogeous gowns that Jean Harlow and Carole Lombard are wearing. But what I'm really focusing on right now are the chairs! I'm really not sure which one I'd chose so I'm putting them all on my wishlist!

      Which one would you chose?

Retro Looks In The Modern World: Pretty Baby

As much as the modern fashion world looks forward it also continually looks back in time. Here we explore Retro Looks in the Modern World.
The September issue of Australian Vogue features model Catherine McNeil in the 1950's rockabilly inspired feature "Pretty Baby". I love the creepers and the leopard print! Vogue liked it so much they put it on the cover (shown above).

The End of Summer? No! The Beginning of Awesome!

Edited by: Thom of The Sunday Best

For the past week I've been listening to Cee-Lo Green's fantastic send-off, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAV0XrbEwNc&has_verified=1, and little else. At the same time I've been reading a lot of the hand-wringing in the press about bloggers and whatever are we going to do about them, along with our responses both here and on our blogs. And the two have combined in my head to form a single determination - bloggers need more swagger. I don't mean anger, of the you-don't-respect-us variety, or apologetics, of the we-are-as-legitimate-as-other-media variety. I mean swagger, the kind of swagger that comes from doing something well and knowing you're good at it. So whatever other themes might knit together this week's links, they all share that important characteristic - swagger. Step up to the plate, knock it out of the park.
