In the 1920's swimwear started revealing the body more then ever before. The modern maillot was invented. The adrogynous athletic tank style of the maillot suited the fashions of the 20's as women became liberated from long skirts. Even though they were made in wool jersey and often worn with little booties these suits are the forerunners of the suits we wear today.
This picture is tiny, but the girls here "jazz" up their suits with flapper hats!
Although this pic doesn't actully show swim suits, it is too adorable not to share. Parasols wereyour best sun protection back then.
I love these ladies! They have it all, decorated maillots, parasol, hats, and musical instruments.

These pictures are great. I was wondering if you could put up a picture of a 1920's one piece? Or 1937 Sarong? I am working on a project for my High School Fashion project which is on swimwear and can't find very many good pictures of them. You are the best resource I have found so far so..

I'd say that one must choose the type of bathing suit that one wants to wear wisely. There are varieties of styles, shapes, colors, prints and stripes designed to meet discerning tastes. Additionally, designer swimwear are also created to make any women feel comfortable with their body while at the beach or just wanting to have a good tan.
