Weekend Reading: Links A La Mode

More than Meets the Eye

Edited by Fajr Muhammad at Stylish Thought

When you visit a fashion blog you often see a stylish blogger posing in a perfectly, put together outfit with gorgeous scenery. What you don't see is the work that goes into curating and maintaining a fashion blog. This week the theme across IFB was outfit posts: what deems an outfit worthy, what goes into creating a stunning visual post and ultimately the comments (some not so nice) that we receive as style bloggers. Ultimately, blogging is a way to express our love for fashion and personal style but as this week's links can attest to, there is much more to fashion blogging than meets the eye.

Mid-Week Inspiration: Lady In Waiting

This spread from the May 2011 issue of Tatler Russia is gorgeous. I'm not sure what is inspiring me more, the Couture gowns or the interiors. Either way, I love it.

Fashionable History: Baby Face 1933

Once again the costumes designed by Orry-Kelly have made me gasp with delight while watching a film!
The Pre-Code Hollywood film Baby Face (1933) is a little gem of a film that raised a lot of eyebrows in the 30's. Barbara Stanwyck stars as down and out Lily Powers who soon discovers that she can use her sexuality to sleep her way to the top of the banking industry. A rags to riches story with a dark side...quintessential pre-code!
What I really loved about this film is the costumes. They play such an important role in guiding the viewer to the stages of her upwardly climb. They also provide us with a fantastic piece of history reflecting poverty, working class, and glitz in the heart of the Depression Era!

Lily as a mid-level employee at the bank.
Jealous and judgmental co-workers. I love the look on the blonde's face!
She's hit the big time!
She brought her friend Chico along for the ride and treats her well!
Watch the film for this dress alone! It is amazing!

Mid-Week Inspiration: Pastel Beauty

Pastels are not my thing but I find this beauty shot to be stunning! I also love her eyebrows.
What do you think? Will you be wearing pastel make-up this Spring?

It's Not All About the Clothes

Edited by Meghan Donovan at WIT & Whimsy

If you're a fashion blogger, you know that personal style is often not just about what apparel you put on each day, but it's about accessories and shoes and beauty, but even more so, it's about the little elements in every day life that inspire you and influence your taste. As fashion blogging continues to evolve I've watched more and more bloggers share little intimate looks into their every day lives, the moments that fill their weekends with joy and those unexpected experiences – as trivial as they may be sometimes – that have you taking to the keyboard and storytelling to your readers.

Fashion: Forever Evolving

Edited by Collette Osuna of Statements in Fashion

Hello everyone! I'm super excited to be making my debut as an IFB Links a la Mode Editor this week. As I visited each link, I was reminded that each had the exact thing in common with the next, that Fashion is Forever Evolving.

From your Mothers fashion advice, a beauty "how to" video, or a legendary icons passing, fashion is always changing and taking form in a new shape. I am constantly thriving to acquaint myself with the "fashion unfamiliar." This weeks links did just that for me. I'm thrilled to be a new member of the IFB family and cannot wait to see everyone's posts throughout the upcoming year!
