Shop News: La Bohéme Series

One of my favorite handmade bridal garter series in my Etsy shop, The Sparkling Cocktail, is La Bohéme. This garter series evokes the Flapper era when ladies used decorative garters to keep their stockings up all day. The peacock feather is a symbol of their style and grace.

All of my garters are made up of a minimum of five parts; two kinds of laces, satin ribbon on the front and back, and elastic in the casing. No stretch lace, here!

The La Bohéme series is no different. I use blonde, pink, and latte peacock feathers mixed with different color laces and satins. Listings are for either sets or single tossers.

Shop News: The Zelda Series

Introducing the Zelda Series! Named after my favorite flapper, Zelda Fitzgerald!
This is a new line of handmade wedding garters now in stock in my Etsy shop, The Sparkling Cocktail.

These garters have movement with 2" flapper fringe! These were really fun to make, especially with the 1920's theme. As with all my garters, they are made up of a minimum of five parts. Lace trim, satin ribbon casing, elastic, fringe and decoration. No stretch lace, ever!

The glamour doesn't stop with the fringe. Decorating the front is an art deco rhinestone button and feather.

Black and white are the two colors now available. What other colors would you like to see?

Mid-Week Inspiration: Peacock Feathers

Oooh the Peacock Feather! It has always been revered as one of the most beautiful birds in the world.  The bird and his feathers have been a popular motif in the arts for centuries. Symbolizing rebirth, renewal, and all knowing, it is no surprise that they have become popular in modern weddings.

I've been using peacock feathers on my handmade La Boheme wedding garters for awhile now. They are my best seller and I especially love the blonde feathers shown above.  My inspiration for them has stemmed from Art Nouveau, the 1920's, and the style and grace of the Flappers who wore garters everyday to keep their stockings up. I sell them in sets, so why wait for a wedding!
See below for inspiration using peacock feathers, both from the 20's and in modern times.

Gloria Swanson- 1920's- This is one of my favorite photos of all time and probably the key to my La Boheme line.

Gorgeous peacock detail on this 1920's dress. Just stunning!

Modern peacock wedding cake!

This dress is amazing! Sorry- I don't know the designer.

Jennifer Lawrence by Tim Walker for W magazine. Albino peacocks are so elegant!
