Fashionable History: Airline Travel

The golden age of travel may well be behind us. Sure, we all have more access to the friendly skies, but I'm not sure that they are that friendly anymore. Here is a mini-flashback to the airline's heyday. When stewardess' were fashion icons and customers didn't have to try to hide their liquid foundation in their carry-on case!

Love these pictures! That orange and pink uniform especially is genius! And being served a proper meal, wow!

They were fashionable that's for sure and I do miss eating, now you have to cram a bunch of snacks into your carry on! Kori xoxo

Awww. i work for an airline and oh how do I miss those Pan Am Days. I loved that people just dressed up to travel and it was considered an event. Now passengers travel in their pj's... gross!!! I like to watch the international crewmembers walk through the terminal, they have matching shoes, bags and hats! so stylish...

I've always loved Elaine's flight attendant suit in the movie "Airplane!" as well. =]

Ah yes...back when air travel was a luxury to be experienced rather than simply a means to an end.

I wish I could have flown during those days.

I love the aesthtic, but can you imagine all the work women had to put into thier looks everyday and necessarily because they wanted to, but because that was the standard. They do always look good though!

There's a Toronto airline called Porter that harkens back to that heydey by dressing flight attendants in retro garb and giving stellar service. Cheap airfare, too!
