Electric cars are slowly starting to become more popular today but surprisingly in the early 1900's electric cars made up 38% of the nation's car market. The Baker Electric (pictured here from Jay Leno's collection) was a virtually maintenance-free and quiet car that became immediately popular among women.

Eventually they were marketed exclusively for women. Designed with parlour-like features inside including a make-up compact with a mirror and a vase for flowers. They became the essential "shopping" car for socialites and very fashionable.
