Fashionable History: Winter Fashion By Decade- 1930's

How did Ladies stay fashionable and warm in the Winter in the 1930's? Let's have a look at part 2 of my series; Winter Fashion By Decade. See the 1920's here.

Fashionable History Winter Fashion By Decade 1930's

These gals look chilly! Long coats were popular baring nude legs. No thick socks or boots!
Fur is still popular, but not as lush as in the '20's. I love those hats!

Just like in the decade before, skiing is popular. Fashionable sweaters are now really becoming a fashion outside of sports.

I love these boots and over shoes. I actually remember my Grandmother wearing these in the 70's. I always thought I would get to when I was older. Where can I find these?

Of course, if you were as glamorous as Marlene Dietrich, this is how you would stay warm.

Mid-Week Inspiration: Streisand at Chanel

It's currently fashion week, somewhere! In keeping with the spirit of the front row, here is a great picture of Barbra Streisand and Marlene Dietrich at a Chanel show in the 1960's.

Streisand at Chanel Bobbins And Bombshells

What I love about this shot is that Barbra is not wearing a Chanel suit like the other ladies in the front row. Marlene's face is priceless. I think she approves, although recognizes that it's a faux pas. Barbra looks somewhat horrified.
Either way, it's a great reminder to not conform! Wear what you want and don't be afraid to stand out.

Mid-Week Inspiration:Stardust-Vogue Italia

italian vogue stardust
italian vogue stardust Steven Meisel shot a retro inspired spread for the Sept. 08 Italian Vogue featuring model Viktoriya Sosonkina. The shots are very Classic Hollywood, reminding me of Bette Davis, Marlene Deitrich, the Hitchcock blonde and more. Katie from Old Hollywood Glamour posted the complete spread a month ago and the two photos above are my favorites. Thank you Katie for finding these!

Vintage Finds of the Week: Repro Cocktail Rings

I absolutely love this photo of Marlene Dietrich. It makes me want to grow out my fingernails and wear super large cocktail rings. So for this week's Vintage Finds I have searched for Hollywood inspired cocktail rings and am amazed at what I have found. At bombshells.com they have a gorgeous collection of reproduction costume cocktail rings based on actual rings worn by Hollywood starlets in their classic films! I am having 50 heart attacks over the selection. You can choose by the actress including, Bette Davis, Jean Harlow, Marilyn Monroe, and many more. Here are some from the Marlene Dietrich collection.
