Mid-Week Inspiration: Lana Turner in The Postman Always Rings Twice

When I first saw The Postman Always Rings Twice starring the lovely Lana Turner, I immediately fell in love with this dress. I have always wanted it!
I love the pockets and that large keyhole neckline!

I also love this shorts ensemble. If only I had those legs!

Well, if I can get my act together, I can recreate these looks as part of the That's Sew Cinematic sew-along! I'm running out of time as the finish is in May but I'm really hoping to turn this Mid-Week Inspiration into a future My Projects post!

Do you have any pattern suggestions? With my busy work schedule, I don't have enough time to draft and drape my own.
Are you participating in the sew-along too? If not check out Rhinestones and Telephones for more information on this super fun project!

My Vintage Vanity: 1940's Dress

*A peek into my permanent vintage collection!*

One of my favorite dresses! This one is a 1940's floral printed rayon dress in teal, pink, white and black. Hard to see here but it has a gathered peplum at the waist. I bought it in Chicago at Very Best Vintage, a shop my wallet is grateful to be many many miles away! I am wearing the dress with my vintage smokey grey straw purse I bought in St. Louis, nude hose with black back seam, and Faryl Robin shoes I scored at DSW.

Fashionable History: Alfred Eisenstaedt's Rockefeller Gals

German American photojournalist, Alfred Eisenstaedt, is probably most well known for the V-Day in Times Square photo above. An iconic image we all know and love. Awhile back I came across this photo series from Eisenstaedt featuring everyday ladies in Rockefeller Center in 1944 for LIFE magazine. I love their flirty dresses!

Vintage Finds of the Week: Vintage Patterns

vintage pattern Since I love to make my own patterns, I have very rarely used commercial ones. But lately I have found myself looking at vintage patterns, not only as a source of inspiration, but also for new projects. So I just purchased the very simple but elegant vintage 1940's Sear's day dress pattern pictured above from Pattern Peddler and I can't wait to test it out. I found a lot of other day dress patterns that I want to try. Tempting as they are I can't buy them all. So they are this week's vintage finds. If you scoop one up, let me know how your project turns out!

New Auctions!

After a brief break over the July 4th Holiday, I am back on schedule with my vintage listings in my eBay store; Femme Fatale Vintage! It's good to be back. I've got some real pretty dresses up for auction now, like the 1940's pink floral peplum dress pictured above, and more to come in the weeks ahead. Don't miss out!
