Mid-Week Inspiration: Tweed

When ever thoughts of  an ideal Autumn or Winter wardrobe come to mind, as they do this time of year, I gravitate toward tweeds. I love the texture, flecks of color, and sturdy warmth it provides. I also love the classic styling that always looks chic.

Sears. 1950's. Yes! To each of those pencil skirts!

What fabric are you drawn to time and time again? What is your go to Autumn wardrobe staple?

Isn't it adorable?

Mid-Week Inspiration: Streisand at Chanel

It's currently fashion week, somewhere! In keeping with the spirit of the front row, here is a great picture of Barbra Streisand and Marlene Dietrich at a Chanel show in the 1960's.

Streisand at Chanel Bobbins And Bombshells

What I love about this shot is that Barbra is not wearing a Chanel suit like the other ladies in the front row. Marlene's face is priceless. I think she approves, although recognizes that it's a faux pas. Barbra looks somewhat horrified.
Either way, it's a great reminder to not conform! Wear what you want and don't be afraid to stand out.

Style Icon: Catherine Deneuve

Catherine Deneuve is one of the most beautiful, elegant, and classy actresses of our time!  The French actress is most known for her films; The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) and Belle de Jour (1967). You may also be familiar with Indochine (1994) , The Hunger (1983), and Dancer in the Dark (2000).

Catherine is still a stunning beauty to this day, but of course I love her look in the 1960's. Her style was and still is very classic, very chic.

Due to her classic style the eyes always seem to focus on her face and that wonderful hair!

In the 1970's she was the face for Chanel and perfume sales skyrocketed. She was also a muse for designer Yves Saint Laurent and modeled for his skincare line. She has also modeled for L'Oreal, MAC and Louis Vuitton. She is still on the best dressed lists today at the age of 69.

On My Wishlist: Grey Hair Streak

My grey hair is starting to show sporadically and I can never seem to cover them up fast enough. If only they were forming a single streak, then I could leave them be. Chanel (shown above and below) showed gorgeous grey streaks on the runway in their Spring 2010 Couture collection. I loved it!

Ann Sothern is another very fine inspiration!

And of course the lovely Mrs. Frankenstein!

On My Wishlist: Chanel Lipstick

My lipstick loving sister gave me a gift card for my Birthday last month specifically to treat myself to Chanel lipstick. Normally, I would have been at the Chanel counter the next day selecting my shade. But with my hand injury I was unable to open and twist the lipstick I already had, so I have waited. I finally have the strength to hold a tube of lipstick and I am eagerly waiting for the newest line of Chanel lipsticks to hit the counters February 25th called Rouge Coco. Vanessa Paradis, pictured above, is the new face of this lipstick inspired by Coco herself. For daytime I want the pretty pink she is wearing in the ads.
And for night I want Chanel Rouge Allure Laque, already in stores, in shade Dragon. It is a high impact, bold red color with high gloss shine. I can't wait to get my hands and lips on that!

Mid-Week Inspiration:Chanel Resort 2010

I'm loving the French sailor looks from Chanel's Ready to Wear Resort 2010 collection. The whole collection has a sort of silent movie look to it with the hairstyles and dark eye makeup. The catwalk is a Venice Lido boardwalk, a favorite destination of Coco Chanel's. The looks range from Victorian seaside wear to 1920's cocktail dresses. There were even some parasols! As always, Karl Lagerfeld is spot on.

Mid-Week Inspiration: Chanel's Train de Nuit

The new advertisement/mini film for Chanel No. 5, titled Train de Nuit, has been released and it's beautiful. Starring Audrey Tautou as the new face for the perfume, and directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet the film takes us for a ride on an Orient Express over night train from Paris to Istanbul. The train conjures up past images but the setting is 2009. Simply dressed, Audrey is beautiful, but I wish that the clothing was as mysterious as the film. It is Chanel, afterall! But I suppose the point is more the allure of the wonderful scent of Chanel No. 5 and the film is still a wonderful inspiration. Like most French films, emotions are relayed without words and this two and half minute film is no exception. Audrey Tautou and Jean-Pierre Jeunet have reunited since filming Amelie to create this and there are some great interviews and behind the scenes footage to be seen as well. Don't delay, go to chanel.com now to see the film and more!

Mid-Week Inspiration: Chanel Quilted Guitar Case

Chanel Spring 2009 RTW From the Chanel Spring 2009 RTW collection is this white quilted leather guitar case purse. I am just starting to learn how to play the bass guitar so this may be a must have. But with my budget, it will remain an inspiration to keep practicing! The gloves rock too.

Mid-Week Inspiration: Chanel Couture Spring '09

I thought Karl Lagerfeld's Couture Chanel collection shown last week was gorgeous. Done completely in black and white the clothing was beautifully restrained but still so Chanel. The white lace dresses were my favorite like the one pictured above. What really amazed me, however, were the stunning floral and feather headdresses made of paper from the Japanese hairdresser, Kamo. Most couture collections can be over the top which is exciting, but I'm gathering my inspiration from the quiet, yet complicated craft shown here. Simply pretty.

Mid-Week Inspiration: Chanel Silent Movie

chanel 1923
To open last week's pre-fall Chanel Paris/Moscou ready to wear collection, Karl Lagerfeld debuted his self-directed 10 minute silent movie. It stars model, Edita Vilkeviciute, as a young Coco Chanel enjoying the flapper life. It's now available for viewing with English subtitles on the Chanel website. Enjoy!

GASP! New Inspiration!!

I haven't been inspired from current high fashion in a long time. This one made me stop dead in my tracks and gasp for air when I opened my August issue of Vanity Fair. Claudia Schiffer stars in the Autumn/Hiver 2008-09 ad campaign for Chanel and she and the ads are gorgeous! I love the half lace half opaque stockings and just plain everything about it... the mood, the messy brunette bob, the half moon manicure.... I'm in heaven!! Thank you Karl!
