Mid-Week Inspiration: Grace Coddington Rides the Subway

Grace Coddington, Vogue magazine's Creative Director, was on the same train as me yesterday on my way home from work.

This is not my photo. Here is Grace photographed by Craig McDean for the January 2013 issue of Interview magazine on the subway.  Grace has been working alongside Anna Wintour at Vogue since 1988.

She was also a model. The photo above is from her early modeling days. Grace is now 72 years old. She is a major player in the fashion industry here in New York and worldwide. She still works. She is not a fashionista. Fashionable? Yes. Fashionista? No. And she rides the subway.

That is inspiring!

Some of my favorite Retro Looks in the Modern World posts are styled by Grace. Have a look here and here.

Retro Looks In The Modern World: In The Mood

In the September 2009 issue of American Vogue is a wonderful fashion spread with a 1940's theme called "In the Mood". Here are a few of the shots from that feature. Styled by Grace Coddington and photographed by Steven Meisel.

Retro Looks In The Modern World: Paris Je T'Aime

As much as the fashion world looks forward it also continually looks back in time. My new blog feature is Retro Looks In The Modern World where I will showcase retro themes and inspirations found in modern magazines, designer collections, and more!
Last week I saw The September Issue, the documentary about Anna Wintour and the making of Vogue magazine. If you haven't seen it, you must! Vogue often features vintage inspired editorials. In the film, they are editing the September 2007 issue and featured a 1920's themed fashion spread called Paris Je T'Aime. Styled by Grace Coddington and shot my Steven Meisel. Here are some amazing shots from that feature:
