My Projects: Perky Snood Progress

You may remember I started crocheting a snood from a vintage pattern. Here is my progress so far. I hope the opening comes out large enough to fit my head. If not I will have to start over. We'll see!
The yarn is Red Heart Classic worsted medium weight wool in #3 Off White. I want the snood to be chunky and have a lot of texture.

This is the image that came with the pattern. What I'm aiming for!

My Vintage Vanity: Winter White Embroidered Purse

*Take a peek into my vintage collection*

I love this vintage purse! I was so lucky to receive it as a Christmas gift last year. The winter white color makes it perfect for this time of year. Protected with a plastic layer the cross stitch and twisted yarns are safe from rainy days and keep it clean. It's also large enough to fit all my daily needs.
Can you see the glitter?

Complete with a pearloid handle and hinge top!

Coats on!

Edited by: Florrie Clarke of Intrinsically Florrie
Change is literally in the air, bringing with it the cold and rain that requires a wardrobe transition. I must confess to being ill prepared myself and as a consequence have been drenched in the freezing cold. Time to get out your boots and coat because fall is well and truly here. I may stick stubbornly to my floral dresses all year round, but the difference is in the layers. So I'm on the look out for fabulous tights and there are a couple of lovely posts to help me choose or even DIY my own style.

Fashionable History: The Bridal Garter Toss

Wedding traditions are fun but can often seem a little strange in modern times. I love to make bridal garters for my Etsy shop, The Sparkling Cocktail, so I recently did some research as to why a bride's garter is tossed.

While the tradition of the garter toss can still make some guests uncomfortable it is very tame compared to it's origins. Back in the 14th Century Europe it was considered good luck to have a piece of the bride's clothing. After the nuptials were made guests would tear at the bride's dress to have a piece of that luck. In some regions it was customary for the guest to escort the newlyweds to their bedroom to make sure the marriage was consummated. As proof they would leave with bits of the bride's dress, veil, stockings, and garters. Over the years this led to the groom just tossing out the garter to the rowdy guests so the newlyweds could have their privacy. Now it is tossed at the reception well before consummation to the bachelor guests and signifies the next to marry.

Often brides will wear a blue garter. The color blue has signified love, fidelity and modesty since Roman times.

Hats Off!

Edited by: Thom of The Sunday Best

With fashion weeks in full swing it would have been easy for the IFB fold to post multiple photos and call it a day. Hats off to these dedicated writers for continuing to pump out original content on often thorny issues (negative blogging anyone?). In particular it was nice to finally see more than one male blogger throwing his hat into the ring. Dressed for Dinner - we salute you and your lovely beard.

Mid-Week Inspiration: Japan Fashion Now

If you are in NYC anytime between now and January 8, 2011 you must make a stop at theMuseum at FIT's current exhibit Japan Fashion Now. I was lucky to have time to stroll through the exhibit last week. It is filled with the cutting edge street fashions that are inspired by Victorian dress, anime, school uniforms, and punk rock. There is also a fantastic display of the 1980's Japanese "fashion revolution" with designs from Comme Des Garcons, Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake and more!

On My Wishlist: Liquor Cart

The first thing on my list is a larger apartment but that doesn't mean I can't start planning on how to fill it! I currently have two shelves in my kitchen that store my liquor and glassware but I think it would be nice to relocate it all to the living room. Here are some ideas involving bar carts which remind me of old movies where the scotch was always close by.

Or maybe I could forget the cart and just get a whole armoire!

Where do you store your liquor at home? Hidden or for all to see? Do you use decanters?
