I've listed lot's of new goodies into my retro inspired handmade Etsy store, The Sparkling Cocktail, this week. For my first foray into the lingerie world, I am making garter sets! I listed one set with a gorgeous monochromatic nude peacock feather. I have a lot of trims and ideas for more and more garter sets to come. I have also listed some birdcage veil headband fascinators. (If you are crafty, be sure to see my veiled headband tutorial). On one of them I used a fully round vintage veil with velvet dots. It's really quite lovely and unique. Here's a look:

My Projects: Veiled Feather Headband DIY

I've been working on a lot of new veiled feather headbands this week for my retro-inspired handmade Etsy shop, The Sparkling Cocktail. I've got quite a few made and will be listing them for sale this week. Instead of just showing you pictures of my creations I thought I'd give you a little tutorial in case you'd like to make one of your own!

Here we go!

Supplies: Scissors, black thread, needle, black satin headband (this one is 1"wide), black French netting 8" X 9", two feathers (color of your choice), and large gold button (with holes, not a shank).

Gather the netting off center so that the finished edge of the netting runs along the edge of the front of the headband. Stitch down by hand. Make sure all of the gathers are tacked down. The gathers puff the netting out so that it will fall around the front of the face. The bottom edge of the netting should form an asymmetrical line across your face.

Tack down with needle and thread the netting on the sides. One spot on each side will do.

Layer your two feathers over each other. I have chosen a large fluffy white feather under a smaller gold toned feather with stripes. Place them over the gathered tulle on top of the headband pointing out over the puff of veil so it cascades over your forehead. Stitch in place.

Finally to cover the edges of the feathers and to add more decoration sew on your button. You could also use sequins, bows, flowers...whatever suits your fancy!

Mid-Week Inspiration: Lanvin Fall 2009

Alber Elbaz is always a genious but his Fall 2009 Ready to Wear collection for Lanvin has me weak in the knees. This collection is for a modern day femme fatale straight out of a film noir. Even the runway looked like a wet sidewalk. I love the draping and folds on a simple sheath silhouette paired with gloves and pumps. I am also inspired to make more feather headbands!

Christmas Stockings and Boots; My Glamorous Holiday

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! I had a lovely and glamorous time. I absolutely love the Faryl Robin black leather knee high boots my sweetie gave me! Thanks babe!

Here I am dressed up for a Christmas party that was a blast! I am wearing my vintage 1960's wiggle LBD with the matching bolero jacket lined with blue flowers. The necklace is from Angel Court that I got at the Bust Craftacular earlier this month. My red suede shoes are one of my favorite pairs from Marc Fisher. And of course that's one of my feather headbands in my hair. The stockings I got years ago at Marshalls and I can't remember what brand they are. I originally was so excited to wear a pair of vintage seamed black fishnets from my vintage stocking collection that I haven't had a chance to wear yet. Unfortunately, with my height, 5'10", they were way to short and didn't reach my garters. Ugh! So I picked these instead, which are lovely. I have sadly realized that my gams are too long for my vintage stockings. My vintage loss could be your gain. I will be selling my unworn stockings very soon. So all of you lucky petites stay posted!!

And finally here I am in my cherry print bikini (not my best photo but whatev!) at Le Parker Meridien hotel pool! My sweetie and I decided on a "staycation" or "holistay" and spent Christmas Eve at a fab hotel a subway ride away. The penthouse pool overlooking Central Park was amazing and we had a blast!

So far my holiday season has been glamorous! I hope yours has been too.
